yamaha f250 4 stroke 2008 lower unit problem. Contact yamaha? need help
So I have had my boat out about 5 times, zero issues. i was running pretty easy today down the river at 4000 rpm, I hear a slight squeel sound and then my port motor runs up to 6200 real quick and boat slows down, I immediately pull back throttles and limp home with the one motor. I figured I spun a prop since it didnt make a bang noice or anything loud. (Not the case) Here is a video of the noise its making, im sure its the lower unit im just wondering what part it could be that is broken if its easily enough for me to replace it. the prop spins in forward and reverse, in neutral is make a slight grind noise not to bad, in forward its a bit louder and reverse its a crunching noise, im sure its a gear of some sort. Anyone else have this problem. Really makes me mad the damn motors have only 500 hours on them and yamahas are suppose to be "the best" I know they are out of warranty but they look brand new under the cowls, to me 500 hours is barely broken in and this is some bullSh*T. Anyone think yamaha will do anything about it? |

Well I tried to drain the oil and low and behold no god damn oil comes out so this is catastrophic. my question I know an entire rebuilt lower unit with housing etc can be had. Are there any rebuild kits I can install myself? |

Rebuilding lower units is not a job for the average DIY guy. You could buy a workshop manual and try it, but they are tricky to get set up properly if you are unfamiliar with them, and you may need tools that you don't have access to. Was there any fishing line etc around the prop shaft? Fishing line cutting up the prop shaft seal is probably the most common killer of lower units. |

Ya. I've built engines and transmissions etc on cars so I figure I could do it myself. I have a bearing press. But I don't want it to go again. It just chokes you up that a dollars worth of fishing line and 15 dollars worth of fkin oil could have saved a 3000 lower unit. It's just complete crap that these motors dont have a lower unit oil alarm |
